Ectopic Pregnancy

We are so very sorry if you have experienced the loss of your baby through an ectopic pregnancy.

An ectopic pregnancy is where the fertilised egg implants outside of the uterus (womb). It usually occurs within the fallopian tube due to a blockage or something slowing down the movement of the egg to get to the womb.

This pregnancy is not viable as the baby cannot grow outside of the uterus and is life-threatening to the mother. The area where the egg implants can rupture at any point.

If you experience these symptoms call your doctor immediately. Symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy include:

  • cramping on one side
  • Lower back pain
  • Pain in the lower belly
  • abnormal bleeding

Symptoms of a rupture. Go to hospital immediately.

  • Severe, sharp and persistent pain in the abdomen area
  • feeling faint or sweaty, diarrhoea, blood in stool
  • shoulder-tip pain
  • Collapse or shock
